Driving Prius on the AlCan Highway

We're seriously considering taking our Prius on a ferry from Bellingham, WA to Anchorage this next June/July -then driving back south from Fairbanks toward home (S.F. Bay Area) via the Alaska Canada Highway.

There are plenty of websites out there for RVers and more macho vehicles... we're just wondering if any of you have any experience with the AlCan -even more specifically with a Prius on the AlCan... and if anyone knows whether mechanics out there would have a clue where to begin if repairs needed to be done on our sweet hybrid.

We're travelled extensively down the Baja many times and throughout Mexico -so we're not novices --at least south of the border. Any thoughts or experiences are appreciated.

    Hi Peaceblossom,

Can you tell me more about your trips to Baja in your Prius? I'm thinking of driving down there myself this Christmas, but feeling a lot of trepidation about potential car trouble, and the drug war violence spilling over to tourists.

    Thanks, Thoi
