  Turbos suck tons of gas. Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of a Prius?

  Googling shows an auto mag writer in Australia who's added turbo and documented it in painstaking detail, and speculation about Toyota adding turbo to future models.
  
  Turbo and the Prius battery do similar things - they let you get more peak acceleration when you need it, while getting away with a smaller engine to keep down fuel consumption the rest of the time.

    Yes, I see that point. If the Prius had a turbo to start with, they could have used a smaller engine (maybe). But that's very different from adding a turbo to an existing Prius. I don't see what the point of that would be.

      Not really sure of the point, curiousity, mostly.
      
      Was thinking of a hand crank powered turbo that the passenger in a Prius could power at a moment's notice, or maybe powered by the battery.
